I read an article about “Wrestling faces off with baseball, squash in bid to return to Olympics” in Japan Times on May 31 2013.
Summary
It has been three months since wrestling got kicked out of the 2020 Olympics, but finally, the IOC executive decided that wrestling will compete against baseball (softball) and squash. Actually, there were eight sports competing for the place on the 2020 Olympics and recently five –Karate, roller sports, sport climbing, wakeboarding and the Chinese martial art of “Wushu” were eliminated. It means that wrestling won the first match for the Olympics. But to be added in the Olympics, wrestling has to win one more competition, with baseball and squash. Wrestling has been a major upheaval in Japan since the rejection in February. In addition, baseball rejected from the Olympics in 2008 and is generally famous all over the world. There will surely be the great competition on September 8, at the final stage, Buenos Aires!!

I am glad to hear that Wrestling won the first competition. To be honest, I am not familiar with rules of Wrestling, but I know that it is the game which has been there since when the first Olympic game held. So I really want it to win the second (final) competition to stay the Olympic game traditional. Although baseball and squash are good sports and fun to play, I think they will be too casual or new for the Olympics compared to wrestling.
Do you wish wrestling to win the competition? Or do you want any two other sports to win? Why or why not?
I would also like wrestling to win the competition, because it is one of the sports that have been bringing many Japanese players medals. But I didn't know that wrestling game has been held since the first Olympic. Though I want wrestling to remain, other two sports are also good for the Olympic. Since baseball is a team sport, it would make people get more excited. Squash is still a rare sport, so it would be a good chance if squash was chosen. I'm looking forward to knowing the result.

ReplyDeleteHi, this is Mayuko. I can not say whether I would like wrestling to win the competition or not because other two sports are worth it as well. However, it can be said that there are a lot of famous wrestling players who got medals at olympic games in Japan. Saori Yoshida is the representative. She has won her three times Consecutive Olympic title. I think that wrestling is important for Japan to get more medals.

ReplyDeleteI want baseball to win the competition because I'm a big fun of that; however, I found it's interesting that wrestling had been there since the first Olymmpic was held. Then i cannot understand why IOC omitted this traditional sportfrom Olympic games. Anyway, I also want wrestling to win the competition because many Japanese wrestlinng players are so strong, such as Yoshida Sayuri. Overall, I support both baseball and wrestling.
