blog#5: last blog of NZenB 2013 class (Mayuko)

Hi! Happy new year everyone!
How was your 2013?

2013 was a memorable year for me because there were a lot of changes in my life.  The most significant change is that I start to go to Gakushuin University. Being college student is freer than being high school student. However, at the same time, I have to be more responsible for my attitude and behavior. In 2014, I will turn 20 years old, which means that I will be part of adult world. More changes may happen in 2014.

Anyway, I could end up 2013 and start 2014 in very good way.
I went 増上寺(Zoujou temple) which is located by Tokyo tower for count down event with my best friend. There were a lot of people around the area and most of them were foreigners.

3.2.1…. Happy new year!!!!
I could see Tokyo tower’s light up turned 2014!

I wished my hope and luck for this year at Zoujou temple as 初詣(hatsumoude- first pray at temple/shrine in new year). After that, me and my friend were enjoyed food stand, 除夜の鐘(jyoyanokane) which is a bell in temple and many new years event.
They brought me very fresh and clean feelings. It was good way to start bland New Year!
What did you do on new years eve/ new years day?
I wish 2014 would be full of happiness for every body!

  1. You spent a nice time on new year!
I greeted the New Year at home, so I envy you.
I watched Zojoji on TV on new year's day.
Someday, I would like to greet the New Year in a prominent temple.

  2. I usually spent the time watching special TV programs for New Year or going to visit a shrine. But this year I went to my part time job on new year eve and new year, and I realized that I should have associated with New ear events more so that I could feel New Year more.

  3. Hi, this is Ms. MacGregor. I was at home, listening to good music (TV programs on new year's eve are terrible to me until NHK at midnight when they broadcast from various shrines around Japan), and writing my new year's card. We at soba in the late evening and stayed up late relaxing.

  4. Hello. This is Koichi.
I also went to a temple in my hometown to ring a 'joyanokane', but it wasn't crowded at all like the temple in your picture. My father was the 108th people who rang the bell. It surprised me!!
Anyway, I hope this year will be a great one for you.
